My Locket | My Story

Origami Owl's catch phrase is "Every locket tells a story... what's yours?" It's such a simple question, but when you go to select the charms that tell *your* story there's so much to consider!  Here's how I decided on what my story is:

First, I have 3 gorgeous, funny, caring and just simply adorable little girls. There were so many options as to what I could have selected for each of them!  Girly No. 1 loves to read, so the book would have been a great choice. Then again, she's always listening to the iPod, so maybe the headphones for her?  Of course, she's also very involved in Girl Scouts as well as Mpact Girls at church... so perhaps a 4-leaf clover, or a star (to represent her Stars Mpact club).  She's also very artistic, so the painter's palette could be the perfect choice. Things were really getting difficult with her... maybe we should move on to Girly No. 2.

Girly No. 2 is a natural athlete, the baseball would be simply perfect for her! Wait a minute, she is also my little helper in the kitchen; there's a cupcake, or a chef's hat... or even a chocolate bar.  I always know the fingerprint swipes in the frosting are hers, without fail *ha!* The microphone could work for her too though, she's constantly singing and dancing around the house.  On the other hand, I don't know if there is a 6-year old on the face of the planet that is quite as addicted to lip gloss as this child is though - maybe I should select the lipstick tube? It would definitely make me smile every time I saw it.  D'rnit! Let's try working with Girly No. 3, she's only 3 so that's got to be much easier, right?

Girly No. 3, she's my little princess; the obvious choice for her would be the tiara - pink or diamond though? Oh wait! Shoes! This child has more pairs of shoes than I do, I should definitely select the flipflops for her, but then again, she loves her cowboy boots... oh, but the high heel would be more appropriate because she's got a special affinity for "princess shoes." This definitely turned into more of a chore than I anticipated!

My ultimate decision was based on simplicity - I ordered their birth stones. I figured Girly No. 1 is old enough to get her own locket for her next birthday and I will fill it with all those things that make her special and tell *her* story. I'm so smart!

A couple of other things that I needed to represent in my locket were my faith and my husband. Husband's symbol is the Republican Elephant - anyone that knows Husband knows there is no other charm that fits him nearly as well as that one! I also threw in a wedding ring because, along with my husband, our marriage is very important to me. He's my best friend; no one angers me more, and no one makes me happier *bah-ha* To encompass them all, along with my brothers, parents, nieces and nephews and other extended family, I just selected the "Family" heart. Last, but not least, I rounded it all out with a simple cross and an "Always" plate.  Now, everything that is dearest to my heart is represented in this locket!

In daylight, I'll take a photo for you. I promise though - Remember, photos do not do these lockets any justice at all! I still stand firm in my believe that everyone should have one.
